Warm-season crops such as tomatoes and peppers can be started indoors now, and basil can follow later in the month. Houseplants may begin to show the first new growth as light returns.
In cold zones, keep seedlings on a warm windowsill or under lights and do not rush them outside. In mild zones, hardy salads can be sown under cover. Watch for late cold snaps that can damage tender new growth.
